What are your memories of seeing Star Wars for the first time!!!

Hi everyone out there, Hothiceplanet here,

First off, I love to talk to fellow Star Wars fans like myself. So feel free to contact me on facebook or twitter.

I have met alot of great and interesting people over the years thru the LOVE of this so called movie "Star Wars". I have always injoyed meeting people from all walks of life thru our common fanship.

I am a nice guy, easy to get along with, very easy going. I like to get out and do things but I do work a lot (and overnights), so I don't get out too much. I am a huge Star Wars geek at heart. Everybody I know just calls me the Star Wars guy.

Second off:

The memory I most strongly remember is:

When "Star Wars" was released in 1977, I was 7 years old. I was spending the night with my Aunt Sue who always would take us kids to a movie when we stayed the night.

This time around it was just me. I was looking in the newspaper (back in 1977 this was the only way to know what was playing in theatres) to see which movie we could go see. I saw this movie called "Star Wars" and wanted to go see this movie, but it was rated PG and I was 7 and my overpretecting mother told me I could only go to see a G rated movie.

Well my aunt had heard good things about this movie and wanted to see it also (she was a big movie buff and that is the one thing I got from her). So I had to call my mom and basicly beg to go see this so called "Star Wars" movie. After a while she agreed to let me go and the rest is history.

The movie had only been out a couple of weeks when I went and I was completely blown away at 7 years old and sence then I have been everything "Star Wars".
Completely threw me into another world and changed me forever. I also know there are thousands of other fans out there that have had the same experience like me.

I also can still vividly remember the first time I saw each of the 6 "Star Wars" films. Later I will add to this blog my first experiences with "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi".

So if anyone out there would like to share their stories with me and others out there I would love to hear them.

Please feel free to contact me or follow me:

i was about 5 or 6 when i first saw star war's this was when they where showing them on fox and channel five and stuff. i saw the empire strike's back with my old man the minute i saw lord vader i fell in love with the movie, i was so into it that i didnt even get up to go to the bathroom or anything. later down the year's i saw return of the jedi and a new hope let's just say those move's left me stunned. in 1997 i went to see the special editions with some friend's most impressed i was when i saw how clean and detailed they looked on the big screen. after watching them i came home quickly found what money i could and began to by the action figure's , in about a month or two i must of had about 20 or 30 figure's.

then episode one came out around 2000 i think dam when i heard that i rushed to get my ticket i think i even missed school that day.after seeing that moive collection two began i started buying those figure's by then my other collection had grown as well, then episode two came out it kicked ass i bought the figure's.

then around 2005 revenge of the sith came out ( note i have been a big sith fan since i first saw vader) i loved that movie so much a saw it four time's started collecting the figures also. bought all six dvd's, plus the animated and new clone war's movie's, made a sith name for myself here on myspace, whent to the convention in la !kick ass! , and recently sat down and saw all six movie's in one night and season one of the clone wars.

so all in all i started out a fan and know im a hardcore sith fan who want's more hell i would give my soul to star in a movie of star war's.

so that's my story and i thank lucas for makeing them
    sincerely-Paul aka Darth Mortis

I'm only 22, but my uncle has shown me Star Wars movies from 'A New Hope' all the way to 'Return of the Jedi' since I was really young. At first, I just enjoyed the movies, but I wasn't completely into it. It just started when the prequils came out. I know that there is a lot of criticism going on for the prequils, but screw those people; they're still good. I gradually immersed myself into the story as 'Attack of the Clones' came out. By then, I was already reading the EU novels. I was a hard core fan by the time 'Revenge of the Sith' was showing. After viewing that movie, I was a die-hard fan. Or maybe die-impossible fan is more like it... I now have over 60 novels, several comic series, and more little tid-bits like bobble heads, and a vanity plate with the Death Star and 'Sith Spawn' typed under it on the front of my Lincoln :)

  5. I agree about the first three movies, they are great also. I am a huge Star Wars fan no matter what, original trilogy, prequels or the EU. I just love it all.

    Thank you, for your story.

I'm 39. I remember going to the cinema as kid in 77', I would go to the matinees every saturday afternoon during the summer. and there i saw Star wars, wasn't a big fan of sci-fi in those day, but when i saw the huge stardestoryer at the started that was it. during that summer i went 3 more times. and that christmas I got the R2-D2 figure. then of course Empire and then Jedi came out and i was in heaven. went again to see the remaster one in 97 and then the new love them.

  7. That sounds great, do you buy chance have the CED versions of "Star Wars" and "Empire" they didn't make "Jedi" in this form. CED if you don't know what they are, were between VHS and Laserdisc. They are big and flat like record albums and laserdics. Anyway I had these at one time.

It started two and a half years aog for me. I always enjoyed the movies but wasn't a hardcore fan. Then my 4 year old started playing Lego Star Wars on our xbox 360 and he loved it. So I decided to show him the movies. They were the only movies he every sat through all the way. We watched them over and over. The more I watched, the more I fell in love with the characters and wanted to know more about them. So I started reading the EU. I was hooked! I know have a large collection of books and characters. I also have a tattoo of the jedi symbol on my back! I currently have taken a small break from star wars to read the twilight saga, But I still love star wars and always will!!! (Obi-Wan is my favorite!)...I also am a member of hyperspace and blog there.
It's a great place to talk to other fans!

    ahhhh...my 'STAR WARS' story....
I was 9 years old back in 1977, that magical year. And I have vivid recall of the first day I saw it, now 31 years ago... (holy crap, I'm old! lol)
    anyways...
My little brother and I were told by our mom that if we were good, we'd have a treat that night. No easy feat, as my little bro and I were always fighting with each other. We try to drag what the surprise is out of her but she is really tight-lipped. So my dad pulls in the driveway, home from work really early. He changes clothes and we all pile into the family car and drive as if we're headed towards my grandmother's house. I'm not so excited about going to 'nanny's' house being the 'big surprise'. But no, we instead pull into a McDonald's for a quick dinner. yea! Big Macs! So we're standing in line and the woman in front of us is wearing a Star Wars shirt, that I point to and make some comment about, as this new 'Star Wars' movie is getting all the buzz. the woman says how great it is and mom shoes me and my little brother away for a moment to go find a table (presumably to tell her that we are on our way to see it). So we eat, get back into the car and drive, drive, drive. Back in those days, movie theaters were NOT on every corner the way they are now. And Star Wars was an 'exclusive' movie playing clear across town (Dallas, Texas) at the 'fancy' Northpark Mall. As soon as we pull into the lot and I see the movie marquee "STAR WARS", I jump in my seat and squeal and am soooo excited!!! I don't remember if there was a line or anything about the theater lobby, but I remember wanting to sit inbetween my parents and then the curtains part, the room darkens, the Star Destroyer flies overhead, and my life changes for the next three dozen years!!!!! I have to buy all the trading cards, all the action figures, all the posters, all the toys, all the records, etc etc etc. Yes, I helped George Lucas become the BILLIONAIRE he is today. But man, that night was magical for me. Obviously, if I have this degree of recall about it, huh? lol thanks for allowing me to relive this moment in my life, one of the landmarks in my youth to be sure! Oh, and...gotta say it... 'may the force be with you. Always.

  11. That is a great story, love it. Your right back then you just didn't run up the street to the movie theatre. I remember living in a smaller town back in 1979 when they rereleased "Star Wars" and my parents having to take us like two towns over to see the movie. The smaller town we were living in at the time didn't even have a movie theatre.

It all started when I was four, in 1977, when my grandmother took me to see the movie. I'm still like the kid I was then, when it comes to Star Wars. The whole thing... the original trilogy, the prequels, the expanded universe (I love the Legacy of the Force book series), pretty much the whole thing, is exciting to me. Especially my little collection of custom lightsabers... For me, Star Wars has been something that never gets old, and has been a piece of my childhood that I sanely say doesn't have to be relinquished. Recently, I decided to do a little video series on the internet, called, "The Dark Side Chats," the purpose of which is to explore the many different reasons that we, after all this time, still hold on to what is perhaps the most endearing and enduring universe crafted from the mind of a single man, George Lucas.

  13. I agree these movies and my love for them never get old and the child in me will never let go of it.

I was 12 when Star Wars came out..My older sister had seen it with one of her friends and came home that night going on and on about it. She kept talking about star troopers and a guy named dark vader and how cute some guy was, that did it for me. I wanted no part of a movie with a 'cute guy' in it. Besides,I was a Star Trek fan and I thought this was going to be a rip off. I can remember that week at school kids talking about the movie is I decided I would have to see what the fuss was all about..So that Saturday I went with my sisters(my oldest sis hadn't seen it yet either)..We went downtown to the old Beckley theater, it was a ancient place with velvet seats, a balcony, the ticket booth was out on the streets and it was just a beautiful old place to see a movie. I remember getting some Neco wafers and a pop and when the crawler came across the screen I was hypnotized. Tantive IV coming across was huge I thought at first, but then when the Star Destroyer came after it I freaked. From the battle aboard the blockade runner, to the first appearance of Vader , to meeting Luke and Obi-Wan, the scene in the cantina (Han shot first dang it) the Falcon blasting out of Mos Eisely, everything, it consumed me right there in that musty old theater. Leia's rescue, the attack on and finally the destruction of the Death Star I just really couldn't believe what I was seeing and I didn't want to leave. We had gone to the early show and there was another at nine o'clock and I begged my mom to let me stay. She wouldn't but, Star Wars stayed in town for almost a year like movies did back then , I lost track of how many times I saw it but it was close to 100. Every Saturday, any chance I got that was pretty much where my allowance went. When it came back a year or so later I was there again every chance so I know I went over 100 views in the theater.. With Empire, I saw it with my cousins when up at there house for the summer and with Jedi as a senior in high school I went with a group of kids from school and was still as enthralled as I was in the first one.. The dry spell between Jedi and Phantom was not good. I was relieved when they started putting out novels to whet my appetite. When Phantom came out, my wife and I took my grandson and his little sister on opening day.. When Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon first drew their lightsabers Kelsey jumped out of her seat and screamed "those are the good guys" it was her first time seeing a movie in a theater and at 13 years old now she is still a Star Wars freak. (Hooked another generation...YES) Through Attack of the Clones to Sith(the only one I ever got to see at midnight), I have remained a huge fan. I started collecting in about "98' or so(all the stuff I had as a kid is long gone) and have really annoyed my wife by taking over an entire room, which she has to sit in if she wants to use the computer. I have loads of figures etc., novels, comics and pretty much anything I can get my hands on. I've become a huge fan of the EU and read everything I can find (Love new Jedi Order and Legacy of the Force...dang it Jason)Love the new Clone Wars animated. Nothing else in my life has changed me this much, well, maybe my wife, and I thank George for putting out a little space movie that no one really thought would go anywhere.. Hopefully somewhere down the line before I die some more movies will be released so I can go back to the theater to see some SW. I'll be a geek forever I guess, but I wear it like a badge of honor, my co-workers think I'm crazy and maybe I am, but it's a good kind of crazy......Johnny

  15. Yes...a very few people just don't get the fandom. That is usually the people who really don't have an imagination.

Having lived with Hothiceplanet for 38 years one could not help but like Star Wars right? WRONG... I too am a HUGE fan of the movies, I have been ever since he came home from our Aunt's house talking nonstop about this Star Wars movie!!! Well let me just tell you I don't remember which theater I was at who I was with or anything else around me what I do remember is the music starting and my life never being the same again. For me Star Wars has always been somewhat of an escape, to explore other places, see different creatures. And what still BLOWS my mind to this day; is that all of this MAGIC came from one man's imagination.

Being born in 1980, I was thrown into the dawning era of the Star Wars universe. As a young child, the movies captured my imagination. The various creatures, vehicles and planets truly amazed me and although I could not grasp the storyline at that age the effect of the movies on my life was no less potent. I often look back to the time when merely looking at Lord Vader made me shiver and reach for my Glow Worm! As I grew in age, my understanding of the storyline following the films became more profound, as did my interest in learning more about the Star Wars galaxy. I collected action figures books and other items to expand the realm that I had grown to love so much, all the while still learning more. Then not long after the release of Episode one through three, I accidentally stumbled onto the world of Star Wars based role-play. I was amazed at the virtual galaxy that other fans like myself had created. Soon I too joined in role play and I found that my lust for Star Wars knowledge had suddenly tripled. I wanted to know as much as there was to know, but this was something I soon found was a nearly impossible task. The galaxy I had known as a child had grown in leaps and bounds and I found myself yearning to discover more and more. I soon became a reborn fan of the older made for TV movies released through George Lucas, featuring the planet Endor and various Ewoks. These two films (Caravan of Courage and The Battle for Endor) may seem a bit cheesy, but are altogether pleasing films to watch for the devoted Star Wars fan. It was quite enjoyable to take a closer look at one of my favorite planets, Endor; and one of my most beloved characters, the Ewoks. Now I continue to read my books, comics and collect Star Wars figurines! I was a bit disappointed in the CGI imagery of the newest films, I must admit. But this is only because I grew up in the age of the late, great Jim Henson. As odd as this may sound, it is my feeling that some of the mastery that was displayed on the puppet work back then was mind blowing. For example, Yoda, Jabba the Hutt, and Salacious Crumb were all beautifully crafted and very realistic looking puppets. I thought they gave the older films more depth, grit and a believable quality but that's just my opinion! In conclusion, it can truly be said that Star Wars culture has changed my life. From the magnificent imagery that is etched into my mind, to the stunning music of John Williams, there is always something somewhere to remind me of that place I love so much...A long time ago in a galaxy far far away! Cheers to you George Lucas! ~Sincerely Darth Maul [LSWRG/DOOM]

I was 5. It was 1980 (the year of "Empire" ironically!) and I went to visit my grandparents who lived in Germany. One afternoon, they produced a betamax, pirate copy of A New Hope, that had been overdubbed in German! It didn't matter though, I was transfixed to the screen. Later that week, I went to see Empire on the big screen. As I got older, I built up a massive collection of vehicles and figures (even had the cardboard Death Star half dome playset!). I saw every subsequent Episode & Re-master on the day of release. The Star Wars Saga is incredible in my eyes. No movie franchise has ever truly captured the magic like Lucas did. Somebody once said: "You never forget your first true love". That about sums it up for me!

  20. I had always heard of it, but my entire Sci-Fi experience began with Star Trek. It was a tradition that my father and I would sit down and watch Sci-Fi during Star Trek, Twilight Zone and TV-movie marathons. I had always heard of Star Wars, but my first experience with it was... interesting.

I was in Junior High when the third (official third) movie came out with Hayden and what not. Honest truth, I got kicked out of the theater for laughing when that awful... awful dialogue spewed forth pathetically. The movie had so much potential, but damn the dialogue! "I HATE YOU!!" being spit out as he is frying after a rather anti-climactic battle? The people who ran the theater asked me and my friend to leave.

In High School, I fell in love with a best friend who is a Star Wars fanatic, and I finally saw the original movies and fell in love with them too.

Now, I am a huge KOTOR fan (Darth Revan FTW). I still hate the movie dialogue, but the entire world is spectacular. I love the races, the languages and the characters.
