First Experience of "The Empire Strikes Back"

Hello again, Fellow Star Wars Geeks,

Today I want to share my first experience of seeing "The Empire Strikes Back".

Back in 1980 "The Empire Strikes Back" was released in theatres across the US, I was 10 years old at the time. Already knowing this movie was coming, even though we didn't have the Internet like today to get up to date news on movies and other things like today. If we got any news on this movie it was from News programs and newspaper, thats it. We had to wait and see the movie with very little going into a movie, which is the way it should be.

Anyway back in 1980, a local radio station here in Memphis, TN called FM 100 (which is still around today) was doing a promotion for "The Empire Strikes Back", in which you could win tickets to a "Special Screening" of the movie. This was a strange way of doing this. I always remember when you would just call a radio station and if you were the right caller you got tickets. This time we had to mail in our information to the radio station and they would then pick a number of people who would win the tickets.

Well my family won tickets and not just my parents and sister, but my cousins, aunts and uncles as well. We had about 12 family members going to this "Special screening". The movie of course was AWESOME and still my favorite of all the Star Wars films, but I got to rag on to my friends in school who of course had to wait until the release date to see it. It was AWESOME getting to see it before anyone else could.

To top it off when "The Empire Strikes Back" special edition was released in 1997, I was able to get tickets to a "special screening" of it also to put the finishing touches on a cool story to me of course.

Well that is all for this post,
Have a blessed day!!

and....May the Force Be With You...Always!!!

What are your memories of seeing Star Wars for the first time!!!

Hi everyone out there, Hothiceplanet here,

First off, I love to talk to fellow Star Wars fans like myself. So feel free to contact me on facebook or twitter.

I have met alot of great and interesting people over the years thru the LOVE of this so called movie "Star Wars". I have always injoyed meeting people from all walks of life thru our common fanship.

I am a nice guy, easy to get along with, very easy going. I like to get out and do things but I do work a lot (and overnights), so I don't get out too much. I am a huge Star Wars geek at heart. Everybody I know just calls me the Star Wars guy.

Second off:

The memory I most strongly remember is:

When "Star Wars" was released in 1977, I was 7 years old. I was spending the night with my Aunt Sue who always would take us kids to a movie when we stayed the night.

This time around it was just me. I was looking in the newspaper (back in 1977 this was the only way to know what was playing in theatres) to see which movie we could go see. I saw this movie called "Star Wars" and wanted to go see this movie, but it was rated PG and I was 7 and my overpretecting mother told me I could only go to see a G rated movie.

Well my aunt had heard good things about this movie and wanted to see it also (she was a big movie buff and that is the one thing I got from her). So I had to call my mom and basicly beg to go see this so called "Star Wars" movie. After a while she agreed to let me go and the rest is history.

The movie had only been out a couple of weeks when I went and I was completely blown away at 7 years old and sence then I have been everything "Star Wars".
Completely threw me into another world and changed me forever. I also know there are thousands of other fans out there that have had the same experience like me.

I also can still vividly remember the first time I saw each of the 6 "Star Wars" films. Later I will add to this blog my first experiences with "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi".

So if anyone out there would like to share their stories with me and others out there I would love to hear them.

Bulletin to Star Wars Fans

Re: Star Wars Figures for Future Fans

My name is Chris Smith from Memphis, TN. I am Hothiceplanet on Twitter and other sites like Myspace and Facebook. I am a huge Star Wars geek and want to get more involved in the Star Wars community.

I AM NOT associated with Toys for Tots in any way. I have bought and sold Star Wars toys online for many, many years. Over the past few years I would take some of the toys I would normally sell and donate them to Toys for Tots. This year I would like to do something a little different.

I would like to take the Star Wars figures that I would normally donate to Toys for Tots, and send these out to specific families myself.

If you know someone in need, please contact me either via email or on Twitter

I will choose at least 5 families from what I recieve to send Star Wars figures to.

This is something different and something I can get more involved in than just dropping of toys to Toys for Tots.

I am only sending out Star Wars figures and not just the toys. I want to use this to give back and to help out the Star Wars community also, by giving some kids who love Star Wars, but might not have the chance to get some of these figures.

I look at this as a small way to also help further the Star Wars community for the future.

I am doing this at my own expense, if anyone would like to help me and get more involved, you are welcome to contact me at...
